Just be yourself, and listen to all the great metal you love. That, is what makes you a metalhead. Not taking drugs and ranting about true and false metal. That, is what you call an intentional conformist.

WHAT IS METAL?

Metal

A type of music characterized by it's cacophonous wall of sound and accelerated tempo which is achieved through distorted electric guitars playing fast-paced riffs, with the driving drumbeat often utilizing hypersonic double bass rhythms and emphasizing the continuous pumping action, the bass guitar is often playing similar to the guitar, but more with the drums, so as to add to the overall heavyness and depth. It can manifest in many different forms and the spectrum of intensity is usually quite varied. From slow and heavy melodic grooves, to complex and precise blinding rhythms, odd time changes, and sheer brutality.. metal comes in many shapes and sizes. One common trait of metal is to have vocals dealing with dark subject matter, often sung with anger, aggression, and conviction in the form of screaming. Melodic smooth vocals are also accepted. Solos are an integral part of metal music, as the icing on the cake to complement the heavy intensity of the songs and add more depth and individuality. Real metal has a solo in every song, usually scales and arpeggios played with some changes often in 8th, 16th, or 32nd notes..if only a few quick licks. Metal is progressive and dynamic, and usually provokes feelings that are therapeutic to the listener. Metal is rock music that has evolved.

True metalhead: (wearing a Slipknot shirt) Man, I'm bored. Anyone got a metal CD I can listen to?

False metalhead: (stoned out of his mind) yo u stupid lozer, Slipnot sux dik. Why doncha lizzen to true metal liek Pantera and Testament, u fuckin poser! Get high an' drunk, jus' liek all of uz!

True metalhead: For your information, I like both of them, and I don't need to be a stoned fucktard to show it.

False metalhead: Whuh? U cal meh namez?? Gah! (falls to the floor, knocked out)

How to Tell if You Are a Metal Poser

There are many, many people who believe they are Metalheads. Many MetalHeads are really posers, and they just don't realize it.

!.
Make sure you actually listen to metal on a daily basis. Listening to a few metal songs at a friend's house or on a game doesn't make you a metalhead.

2.Make sure you know your facts!
Know random trivia about bands like Motorhead, Metallica, Pantera, Death, Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, Alestorm,Brainstorm, In Flames, Helloween, Primordial and any other band you like. Also, opinions are not facts. Statements like "Slipknot Sucks!" or "Metallica is the only good metal band" are just people talking. If they only like one band, they don't like metal; they like a band, thus they cannot qualify as metalheads, and are therefore merely "bandheads". There is, although, one exception to this rule. If a person likes Metallica and has only listened to Metallica, then he/she can still be considered a genuine metalhead, but an adolescent metalhead to say the least.

3:

Being a metalhead does not mean you reject every other genre of music.

A metalhead (as well as everyone else) should exercise an open mind and be reasonable. Metal in general may be considered as good music, but not all good music is metal. If you think metal is the only genre of music, you are narrow-minded.

4:Make sure you have friends that are metal. If you have no metalhead friends, you should be able to notice.
5:Be sure to not be a jerk. Sure, metal is aggressive, this doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. But in the spirit of metal, defend yourself, your music, and your friends.

6.Claiming to be a metalhead does not make you one.

You should also realize that metal has almost nothing to do with fashion, which sets metal apart from other genres, but a shirt of your favorite band or guitarist or drummer, etc. is good every now and then. People should think of your subgenre when they see you.

8.Metal is completely about being yourself; there is no model to follow.

Be a metalhead out of your love for this music, not for the fame nor the attention. Remember: being a metalhead does not mean making all of your conversations based around music. Try to stay away from the topic unless inquired.

9.
Be sure that if you wear guitar pick necklaces, or other instrument related things, that you actually can play the instrument.

Don't carry around guitar picks either unless you really play guitar.

Now, evaluate yourself by your answers to these steps.

There is no definite definition for a metalhead, as so many will lead you to believe.
