The U.S. Postal Service is paying tribute to one of rock and roll’s most legendary figures with the latest in the line of the ‘Forever’ stamps. For a mere 49 cents, you can paste Jimi Hendrix on your next piece of mail.
With psychedelic artwork by artist Rudy Gutierrez, Hendrix is pictured with Stratocaster in hand, and donning his iconic military jacket. Beginning today (March 13), the Jimi Hendrix ‘Forever’ stamp is available at post offices, on the U.S. Postal Service website, and eBay.
“The technical challenge was making art that will still read at stamp size, so it was a matter of not being overly complicated,” said Gutierrez. “It was important to make the art accessible, and to be true to the incredible combination of rawness and virtuosity that was Jimi Hendrix.”
Despite his recent health issues, Lemmy is gearing up to rock and roll on the high seas — all aboard the SS Motorhead!!
Motorhead, Megadeth, and Anthrax are teaming up for the first annual ‘Motorboat’ cruise. Also along to make waves will be Zakk Wylde, Danko Jones, Fireball Ministry and comedian Jim Breuer, among others.
He’s managed to successfully fight off cat scratch fever for decades, but not even the mighty Ted Nugent is completely invulnerable — in fact, ol’ Uncle Ted recently had to have his knees replaced.
Nugent shared the news of his medical woes via Facebook, where he reached out to fans with a post explaining his recent lack of activity on the site by saying, “Greetings my fellow Nuge facebookers. Sorry I haven’t been on much lately but the double knee replacement surgery knocked me on my ass royal!”
Breaking news out of Mexico. The Hell and Heaven Metal Fest, which was scheduled for this coming weekend and to be headlined by Kiss and Guns N’ Roses, has reportedly been canceled due to safety concerns. However, the organizers of the festival haven’t given up the fight.
Vintage Vinyl says that the state government has shut down the festival, claiming that the organizers have not properly prepared for crowds of up to 80,000 at the Feria De Texcoco Estadio De Mexico in Texoco. They’ve cited inadequate plans for fire safety, evacuation and fireworks.
Since forming in 1981, Motley Crue‘s lineup has remained relatively stable. While both Vince Neil and Tommy Lee tried their hands at solo careers, they were eventually brought back into the fold. Recently, Mick Mars revealed that he came dangerously close to quitting during the recording of 1997′s ‘Generation Swine,’
The album was made when their label, after the failure of their 1994 self-titled release, put pressure on the band to reconcile with Neil. However, Mars’ frustrations weren’t due to a repeat of the conflicts that caused the initial split, but with producer Scott Humphrey, who added electronic and industrial textures to bring them up-to-date with then-popular trends.
Kiss frontman Paul Stanley says his only regret about their early-80s era was that he had to split their income with Gene Simmons while the bassist wasn’t earning his share.
The band are currently embroiled in a war of words after Stanley and Simmons stated that no version of Kiss would perform at the band’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in April. The move was a reaction to pressure from organisers, former colleagues and some fans for the original line-up to regroup for the night.
